# Switch between List and Column views

Press `L` to show a level of your outline as a **List** or as **Columns**. You can also click the view icon at the top of the column.

*`L` shows the top level as columns: the next column lists what is inside the selected item. `L` again goes back to the list.*

## List View

Sub-items are indented under their parent. Best for writing and editing.

## Column View

Each level gets its own column. Best for finding your way around a large outline.

## Keyboard Shortcuts

Press `L` to switch between List and Column view.

Your selected view is remembered the next time you open that column.
